Rehearsals for our new touring show about the years immediately following the First World War in Rutland are to begin in early September. The script is currently being written and focuses on the lives of four women who find themselves caught up in the turmoil and frustation of the early twenties as the new world that was promised refuses to materialise, and yet old certainties begin to be swept away. It will be our fortieth main show (not including smaller street theatre projects) and we’re really pleased that we’re marking such a milestone back in Rutland where perhaps our most ambitious performance ‘The Takeover’ was staged in 2003.

This show will follow on from our final performance for the Three Doors Down project in Aspley, which will take place on July 28th and will combine a small audio and photographic exhibition with a cabaret style performance blending film, games and storytelling.

Mid September sees us return to Pune where we will be spending a week working with Swatantra Theatre company, both at their beautiful base in the complex of a Jain temple, and on site at the Birajdar Basti. This project is now really beginning to gather steam and we’re really looking forward to joining in with some street theatre as well as planning out how the community play we are making together will work.

And September also sees us begin another project, and again it’s one that will take us to India, this time to Kerala. This is a really big project where we will be working alongside academics from DeMontfort and Loughborough University as well theatre practitioners and film makers from the Indian state. Once we’re a bit clearer about what we’re all hoping to make together we’ll let you know.
