The Old Dogg at The Mint

In 1696 Isaac Newton became the Warden of the Royal Mint, and in 1699 took on the role of Master of the Mint, a position he held until his death in 1726.

As part of the Gravity Fields Festival in Grantham, a bi-annual celebration of the life of Sir Isaac Newton and a week long programme of science and arts based projects, performances and workshops, Excavate worked with the Grantham Dramatic Society over several months (including a trip to the Royal Mint in Cardiff) to create a new script that explored Newton’s work at the Royal Mint.

A rehearsed reading of the show was held in September at the Grantham Museum. Although we hoped to develop this into a full scale performance for the festival in 2016 this was not to be. But the script is there and ready to go … maybe a site specific performance at the Royal Mint beckons!
