The Life and Times of Kenelm Digby
As part of a larger project with Dragon Breath Theatre this was a schools project based at the wonderful 1620s house in Donington le Heath.
Using the story of the early 17th century explorer and polymath Kenelm Digby we created a tour around the house for primary school pupils and then used this to create an exhibition and performance of our own with pupils from Cobden primary school in Loughborough. As a transition project we also took this work into the secondary school that these pupils went to after their summer holiday break.
We will be working on developing the tour for future use at the house, which was based on an exploration of the senses and of experimentation downstairs, and on a storytelling experience upstairs. With tales of piracy, poison and politics, along with investigation into early scientific theories, this aims to encourage pupils to think about the many different branches of science that they may wish to explore further. Dare to know!
